This gift does not appear in Alexander II’s grand confirmation to Arbroath (<em>Arbroath Liber</em>, no. 100). Thomas Malherbe was sheriff of Forfar on 17 Jan. 1227 (<em>Arb. Lib.</em>, no. 229) and witnessed a charter of Alexander II dated 1232 (<em>Brechin Reg.</em>, no. 2). Malcolm the butler (_pincerna_) witnessed charters between about 1199 and 1229.
