Patrick of Leuchars, bishop of Brechin (d. 1383)

Biography
Patrick was probably from a Fife family and trained in the Augustinian priory of St Andrews. After holding minor ecclesiastical offices from 1344 he was elected to the see of Brechin in the summer of 1351 although the pope set this aside to provide Patrick on his own authority- he was consecrated bishop before the end of 1351. The appointment of Patrick as chancellor of the realm before 26 September 1357, after a brief earlier spell in the office, reflected Leuchar’s closeness to David II who was about to return to the realm after a decade-long imprisonment in England. Patrick continued as chancellor until sometime shortly after 4 March 1370. Largely disappeared from public life in the reign of David’s successor, Robert II.
