Matthew, master, brother of John

Biography: Watt, Graduates, 385: Matthew was called master when witnessing charters of Bishop Gregory of Dunkeld, 1162×69, and occurs once with his brother, John, when witnessing a charter of the next bishop, Richard, 1170×72. He is probably the same Master Matthew found in a St Andrews context, 1160×88, and perhaps the same who witnessed charters of Bishop John Scott of Dunkeld, 1183×1203, prob. soon after 1188. If he is the same as this last Master Matthew, he might be the same as the chaplain of Bishop Matthew of Aberdeen, the uncle of Bishop John Scott, dated to 1175×99. cf Matthew of Aberdeen
