Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae 1066-1300, vi, 7-13: Hugh was the first dean of York, appointed by Archbishop Thomas (I) before December 1093 when he was probably a young man. He last occurs as dean on 9 October 1132 and retired old and infirm as a monk at Fountains in 1135, to which house he was a benefactor and founded a library there.
