Abbot Adam and convent of Arbroath make known that in 1245 they demitted at feuferme to Sir John Wischard the mill of Conveth (Laurencekirk, KCD), to be held by service and fidelity by John, who will hold mill with its pertinents, just as King William, of good memory, gave it to Humphrey of Berkeley, saving to abbey multure of an oxgang of land that was given to lighting of altar of St Mary at Arbroath. Arbroath and John both promise that with council and common and faithful assistance, they shall expend to defend and warrant John's mill against all men and women.
