Bernard Fraser has given, granted, and by this his present charter established in free, pure and perpetual alms to Newbattle Abbey all land which came to him by hereditary right in ‘Mylnehalc’ of North Hailes (ELO), that is, which he acquired from Mary of Hailes in court, where his right to that land was recognised. He wills that the said monks will have and hold that land in perpetuity, free and quit from all service, exaction and demand.
