Alexander de Vaux, lord of Dirleton, makes known that since Dryburgh Abbey were at one time held to find two canons to serve within the island of St Nicholas of Elbottle (ELO), he has remitted the chantry which ought to be made in the said island, that they may find one canon to serve at ‘Stodfald’ and another within the monastery of Dryburgh. He wishes and grants that Dryburgh Abbey shall be free from building the said chantry.
