Thomas Malherbe has given and granted and by this his charter established to Arbroath Abbey 2s. in perpetual alms from that land of Balneaves (in Kinnell, ANG) which his father William ‘de’ Malherbe (sic) gave to his brother Ewin (Eogan?) for his service, falling annually on Martinmas, which his father granted orally to the monks in perpetual alms before his death.

Dating Notes
This gift does not appear in Alexander II’s grand confirmation to Arbroath (_Arbroath Liber_, no. 100). Thomas Malherbe was sheriff of Forfar on 17 Jan. 1227 (_Arb. Lib._, no. 229) and witnessed a charter of Alexander II dated 1232 (_Brechin Reg._, no. 2). Malcolm the butler (_pincerna_) witnessed charters between about 1199 and 1229.
