Alan of Swinton notifies that he has taken at feuferme from the abbot and convent of Dunfermline a place to have a mill on the River Esk (ELO) on the west side of their mill of ‘Wythenoc’, with easements of common pasture, free and quit from all service and exaction, rendering annually one mark on the two terminals, that is, one half mark at Pentecost and one half mark at Martinmas.
