William Sinclair, the knight, states that he, his heirs and his assigness are bound to the Abbot and Convent of Newbattle for an annual mark of good sterling, in the name of the ferme [owed] for Balvormie (WLO), which [land] he holds from the Abbot and Convent, and his heirs and assignees will hold. He is to come to render the mark at the gates of Newbattle, viz., half during the octaves of Pentecost and half during the octaves of St Martin in winter. Penalties are specified for failure to comply with the aforesaid.
