Robert, king of Scots, has inspected and truly understood the charter of Lord William, by the grace of God, illustrious king of Scots, of venerable memory, to the burgesses of Rutherglen, quoted in full (RRS, ii, no. 244; H1/6/221). He has approved and ratified its contents. He has also granted that they may be free of toll and custom throughout his kingdom, as attested by King Alexander II's charter.
